Buying music using a shopping cart

If you're connected to the Internet and have an Apple or AOL account, you can buy individual songs or entire albums from the iTunes Music Store. If you don't already have an Apple Account, you can set one up when you're ready to buy music.

You can choose to have iTunes add items you want to buy to a shopping cart so you can buy and download all your music at one time. When you're ready to buy, the music is downloaded into your iTunes library, and also placed in a Purchased Music playlist.

Important: All sales are final. Once you click to buy the items in your shopping cart, you cannot cancel the purchase. Your credit card is charged each time you click the Buy Now button.

1. Choose iTunes > Preferences.
2. Click the Store button at the top of the window, then select "Buy using a Shopping Cart."
3. Click Music Store in the Source list, then find the song or album you want to add to your shopping cart.

You can double-click a song to listen to a portion of it and make sure it's the song you want. (If your network connection is slower than 128 kbps, choose iTunes > Preferences, and in the Store pane, select the "Load complete preview before playing" checkbox.)

If you see "Partial Album" below the album information instead of a Buy Album button, some of the songs on the album are not available for sale. You can buy the individual songs that are available, or try visiting the iTunes Music Store at a later date to see if the complete album is available.

If you don't see the Music Store in your Source list, it may not be available in your country. For more information, visit www.apple.com/itunes.
4. To add an item to your shopping cart, click Add Song or Add Album.

Items remain in your cart until you're ready to purchase and download them.
5. When you're ready to buy the items in your cart, click Shopping Cart in the Source list, then click the Buy Now button in the bottom-right corner of the cart.

If you have an Apple or AOL account but you haven't yet signed in to the Music Store on this computer, you're asked to sign in. Once you sign in, the music is charged to your Apple or AOL account and downloaded to your hard disk. If this is the first time you're using this account in iTunes, you will need to verify your account information before the music is downloaded.

Note: Only U.S. customers can sign in using their AOL account. If you're using an AOL account, you may need to change the type of credit card you use when buying music in iTunes to one that is accepted by the iTunes Music Store. Changing the credit card used in iTunes does not change the credit card listed for your AOL account on the AOL service.

If you don't yet have an Apple Account, you can create one by clicking Create Account in the Account sign in window.

If you're already signed in, the song is downloaded to your hard disk and charged to the credit card listed on your Apple or AOL account.

After your purchase is processed, you're sent an email with the purchase information. You should print or save this email for your records.

If you quit iTunes or restart your computer before a purchase has finished downloading, the download should resume the next time you open iTunes at no additional cost. If it doesn't resume, choose Advanced > Check For Purchased Music.

Be sure to make regular backups of your music files (in your iTunes Music folder) by copying them to an external hard disk or other media. If your hard disk becomes damaged or you lose any of the music you've purchased, you'll have to reimport all your songs and buy any purchased music again to rebuild your library. You can also make an audio CD of the songs you purchase so you can listen to them in a consumer CD player.
